What is Parvovirus?

Pets with parvovirus starts to spread the virus within 4 to 5 days of exposure and continue up to 10 days after recovery. Separate your other pets away from the infected one, especially those that have not yet received full vaccination. Prevent the infection by having your pet vaccinated for parvovirus and other diseases.

It’s very important for new pet owner or breeder to be aware of the symptoms and know what to do about it. Parvo usually attacks puppies and unvaccinated pets, the earlier you see signs of the virus the sooner you can help your pet to survive this contagious disease.

Symptoms of Parvovirus

  • Bloody diarrhea

  • Dehydration

  • Depression

  • Fever

  • Lethargy

  • Loss of appetite

  • Loss muscle control

  • Vomiting

  • Weight loss

  • Weakness

Parvovirus is a highly contagious and very deadly viral infection that attacks the digestive tract and cardiovascular (heart and lungs) systems of cats and dogs. The virus spread through direct contact with the feces, blood or vomit of an infected pet or by indirect contact with a contaminated object. Your cat or dog is exposed to the parvovirus every time he goes out in the infected area and sniffs or licks everything that might be infected.

These symptoms could be a sign of parvovirus or another serious illness. Parvovirus is fatal when left untreated. Contact your veterinarian immediately, inform them of the symptoms you see on your pet so that they can make an appropriate treatment and procedure.
