Benefits of Yoga

Regular practicing of Yoga has a lot of benefit on our mental and physical health. It improves your strength, flexibility, body posture and balance. Research shows that practicing yoga may help in physical health by lowering the risks of heart diseases, blood pressure, also aides in digestion and boost immune system.

These benefits differ based on the types of yoga you do, like on a meditational or spiritual types of yoga, it helps to reduce stress, promote relaxation, manage sleeping disorder, instill happiness, peace and lessen depression symptoms. Practicing yoga regularly also helps building a healthy virtues and good values, such as discipline, honesty, contentment and empowers your mind to make the right choices to a healthier and fulfilling life.

In ancient time Yoga was relate to a tree, due to its many branches and different paths, often these paths crosses naturally.

The Yoga Six Branches

Bhakti- path of devotion

Hatha- path that focuses on mastery of the body

Jnana- path of wisdom and knowledge

Karma- path of service

Raja- path of meditative focus

Tantra- path of rituals

There are different types of Yoga classes you can attend to. Yoga classes has different approached and technique, that also uses a different variation depends on the teacher. Regardless of what your reason is for trying Yoga, it will have a great benefit for your mental and physical health. Here are the lists of common yoga classes you may encounter in your area;

Types of Yoga Classes

Ashtanga Yoga- a demanding sequence of postures, breathing and physical movements.

Bikram Yoga- a specific set of poses focused on proper alignment and usually done in a heated room.

Vinyasa Yoga- considered as the most athletic yoga style and was adapted from ashtanga yoga. Movements are formed with breathing and incorporate with one pose to another

Hatha Yoga- a combination of other yoga styles such as Ashtanga, Iyengar etc., that are grounded practices and are good for beginners

Iyengar Yoga- a style that focuses on alignment, sequence and correct movements, with poses held for longer periods of time.

Kripula Yoga- a very easy and gentle practice that focuses on breathing, spirituality and meditation.

Kundalini Yoga- a spiritual and physical movement to release the kundalini energy trapped in the lower spine.

Yin Yoga- a slow-paced style with seated posture that held poses for a longer time to target deep tissues in the body.

Restorative Yoga- a meditative style that focuses on body relaxation and also helps to cleanse and relax your mind.

Jivamukti Yoga- a combination of Vinyasa flow style and Hindu spiritual teachings. This practice also follows a vegetarian philosophy and emphasize a connection on Earth as a living being.

Anusara Yoga- a modern version of hatha yoga, with similarity to Vinyasa. Emphasize on the mind-body-heart connection and focuses on spirals movements.

Prenatal Yoga- is great for pregnant women in all trimesters. It involves pelvic floor work, breathing, and bonding with the growing baby. These yoga class also helps mothers prepare for labor and delivery.

Power yoga- A rigorous fitness-based practice consisting of high-impact yoga. Focuses on building strength, endurance and also an excellent form of yoga for burning calories.
