How to Find Happiness in Life
RicheViews, February 3, 2024, 5 Minutes Read
1. Smile
One of the basic signs of happiness. We smile whenever we think of something funny or we remember that one person who always keeps a smile on our face. Well, the trick here is that smiling make your brain release a Dopamine, a hormone that contributes to feeling alert, motivated and makes us happier. Several studies found that smiling and happiness are connected and have influence on our emotions. People will think you’re going nutsy, but have a try smiling at the mirror, especially when you are feeling down.
2. Exercise
Did you know or did you just find out that exercise can make you happy? Working out is not only for the body. Having a workout routine can help to lessen your feeling of anxiety, stress and signs of depression. Staying fit and healthy makes you feel good and confident. I am not suggesting that you have to grow some muscles or join a triathlon- even just a simple exercise like yoga, stretching or have a short walk every evening around your block after dinner will do the tricks.
3. Sleep
Yes, you read it right. Getting enough sleep have a huge impact in our overall health. It lowers your risk of getting diseases like diabetes, depression and heart failure. At least 8 or 7 hours of sleep a day improves brain function, good health and emotional stability. If you are working on a nightshift, try dim your room by putting dark curtains to block the brightness from the sun. Melatonin is the sleep hormone during nighttime that makes us sleepy. Try sleeping same time every day and you can also take a nap time at least 20 minutes during your breaks.
How was it like to be truly happy? Most of us have different opinions and versions of true happiness. Being sad means you have no right to be happy at all. Afterall we are only human; we can feel any emotions. It’s just that recurring events in our life or dealing with our problems keeps us from the gloomy side of the wall. We can be happy living a simple life, while others tend to found happiness in reaching their goals in life. We have here a list of pointers that you may found helpful to your daily life.
4. Eat Healthy
Your food choices have impact on your physical health as well your state of mind. Eat carbs such as vegetables, beans and whole grains. They produce healthy carbohydrate that gives serotonin, a natural chemical that serve as a mood’s stabilizer, transmitted between your brain. Lean meat, legumes, dairy and poultry products to boost your energy. Avoid skipping your meals and highly processed foods it will make you feeling low and unhealthy.
5. Be Grateful
Gratefulness over something even on small amounts boost your moods. Think of all the pleasant things that happen in your life may it be your mom preparing your food, your job, achievements or even having a safe travel every day. Being grateful will overcome most of the bad things that happens. It gives us a feeling of hope and happiness.
6. Give a Compliment
Compliment is one of the easy ways to brighten someone’s day. Look into the eyes of the person, smile and praise him or her in a respectful way. Be sincere in giving your compliments. When you see them smile, it gives you happiness too. Studies shows that practicing kindness to others improves your overall well- being.
7. Breathe Deeply
When you are having a bad day and you feel like you are dropping the bombshells. Just take a long, deep breath and calm yourself. Deep breathing exercise help in reducing your stress. If something or someone is trying to ruin your day, keep yourself away from it. If can’t be avoided, just close your eyes. Try thinking your happy moments. Repeat the breathing exercise until you find yourself calm again.
8. Don’t Compare
Comparing yourself with others will only make you feel discontent, depress, anxious and lowers your self- esteem. Thoughts like it can’t be avoided but with practice you will find yourself having inner peace and happiness. Based on Desiderata Max Ehrmann 1927 poems says “ If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself”.
9. Clean your Room
Having an organized and clean room make me feel peaceful and happy. It may sound like a big chore to do, but it only takes just about 20- 30 minutes depending on how messy your room is. Toss or give away something you don’t use anymore, put it in designated box. Tidy up your closet and put everything in place. You can also extend your declutter project on your living room, kitchen or in the whole house. You can do these things anytime whenever you feel like your place need it.
10. See Friends
Social relationships impact our state of mind. Going out with your friends or just a simple sleepover, reaching out with them especially those you have meaningful relationships with will boost your moods. Your pet is also your friend, they offer the same benefits. Go for a walk or run with your dog, it will make both of you enjoy, relax and happy.
11. Get into Nature
It’s not just about mountain climbing activities, even a small space of green like your subdivision parks, your own backyard and garden will do the same effects too. Research shows that green spaces can boost your moods, decrease chances of depression and also lower your blood pressure. You can also incorporate outdoor exercise with it for additional health benefits
12. Self-care Ritual
Even on your busy day, set a time to take care of your body. Have a long hot bath to ease the tiring day at work. Do your skin care routine such as cleaning your nails, ears, trimming extra body hairs or exfoliating your face at least twice a week. You can also try meditating before going to sleep. Having a good feeling before hitting your bed, will boost your moods and you will wake up the next morning feeling good about it.
